Code of Ethics of Section O0B

We, as  members of ITETHIC Class O0B and as students of the Information Systems Degree of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, are exposed to unending ethical scenarios in the context of our I.T careers, and for this, we are required to maintain a moral compass that would be able to weigh all vital factors affecting our day to day living. As we are pursuing an I.T profession in the near future, we have the obligation to commit ourselves into leading our moral sensibilities in the most ethical and professional manner. We are hereby faced to adhering to our code of ethics that encompasses these three-fold dimensions:

Performance

  • Continuously enhance our competencies (knowledge, skills, and experiences), which includes extending the learning experience beyond what is imbibed by the institution
  • Create a community of learning in which sharing of knowledge would benefit one another
  • Seek and offer help, counsel, and assistance when undertaking activities unreached by one’s capability
  • Humbly accept professional and peer advice, and learn eagerly from mistakes and shortcomings
  • Not cause harm – emotional, mental, spiritual or intellectual – through one’s individual work

Privacy

  • Respect other’s intellectual property and provide appropriate credits to authors when using other’s material
  • Respect other’s privacy by not forcing to acquire confidential information about them that could harm their reputations
  • Protect and safeguard our own intellectual content and property so that it would not be deliberately utilized unscrupulously by other individuals

Integrity

  • Not engage in any form of discrimination that undermines one’s capability.
  • Learn to foster respect and diversity by harmoniously synergizing with people despite unique characteristics
  • Only use verifiable resources that are validated through intensive research in various and unprejudiced references

Our code of ethics is not constrained to the stipulations herewith in its most raw sense. Furthermore, this does not dictate the entirety of the ethical framework of what each member ought to live by. Everything is subject to change as accompanied by the progression of the ethical principles through time. And by this, we promise, by this code, to see, feel, and think, through this ethical mindset.
