Is Ad-blocking Theft

Page history last edited by Tobias 8 years, 4 months ago

Ad-Blocking are you a criminal or not

I think this article will teach me if ad-blocking can be a way of stealing or not based from what I have read from my previous searches about ad-blocking they say that it is just an attention getter and should not be blocked because based from the terms and regulations there is something there that you agreed upon that you accept the website as it is so it also means if there is an ad you should respect it and just move on because some sites use it in order to make money because there are certain sites that survives just by adds and if you used an ad-blocker it is like you are killing them.

“Rather than scream “theft!” at [ad-block users], we need to find a new approach that takes into account their fears while ensuring that online media still has a place in business.”

Based from what I have read ad-blocking is really a kind of theft it is a good thing I do not use this kind of contraption in my laptop cellphone pc’s and other devices in my house it is like just the article said when you use ad-blocking software’s you are hurting the people who rent advertising space in the web how bad is that? It is like you are virtually hurting them and physically hurting them because you are getting there money from the web and for those who develop these ad-blocking software’s they gain profit but in exchange they damage the little ones that only survives through ad’s although based from what I have read there are some ad-blocking software’s that allows users to choose what kind of ad’s you want to pop up there was a kind of software like that like Ghostery but some of our ad rent buddies have figure out a way in order to save them from becoming a non-profit advertiser just because someone blocked them they could use a suggestive window like when you go in a certain website it will prompt you that oh you are using an ad-blocker? Would you like to donate to this much money to Digital Ethics Book Project 1T SY 2015-2016 Digital Ethics Book Project 1T SY 2015-2016 us from just one time? Or do you want to support this ad because you blocked us in another way with this they could ease up their game with this kind of tactic maybe the ad renter’s that rent’s space for their ads could team up with ad-blocker’s  ironic isn’t it?  But it could work only if the ad-blocker will relay them their message that you need to donate this much first or help us in another way and also I want to say another thing about this ad blocking sites there are also sites that contains continuous spam messaging and hacking your personal accounts an example of this is Crypto ransomware this is a malware some ad’s might contain this ad’s might have a good side but there is also a bad side to this and that is that crypto ransomware software there is also another article that I also have read that goes by the saying do you think it's ethical to have an ad-blocker? And my answer based from what I have said from this is For me no although it is very annoying at some time I don't think I will turn on my ad blocker because there are some sites that just earns money just by ad's and everything is free so if you turn on your ad-blocker it is like you are killing them. There is also a follow up question about this where I was asked before I read the article on when is it ethical to use an ad-blocker? Even before I read this article’s saying that this really hurts some people because they paid for rent in order to have a space in the ad section andyou are just going to block them I actually already know it a little because I was thinking websites cost money to set up and since these ads are actually quite far from the product that is being sold in this particular website for example a website for beers and then a pop up saying buy pencils now as you can see they are really different and so I was thinking maybe they paid the websites in order to have some little space in their websites because setting up a website is quite hard in my case as a programmer I find it really hard so maybe the one who is ad renting is low on money and low on programmers so they just decided to rent out space in their website and also another ting to add to my research in this ad blocking is “is it ethical to block users from a website that uses ad-blockers?” for me it is their decision if they want to since I am very sure the defendant will just answer because they are annoying and the person who trying to block them will say you are hurting our fellow ad renters and of course not everyone knows the story behind all of this and after some time of explaining to them maybe they will decide to not anymore use ad-blocker’s or if they still continue to use ad-blocker cause they don’t give a care for who is renting or who they are hurting on the web or the just simply don’t care it is already the website owner’s job to make a move if he/she is going to block that person from the website and also based from what I learned from my classmate this is my other opinions about It so based from what I have readAs of today applications for blocking online advertisements is pretty popular. From my own perspective I can say that “I hate ads” it takes up my view in the net. Based from the author he discusses about “how does Facebook know what we want” come to think of it, I wondered the same way because of my hobbies like watching anime and playing MMO and other games, Facebook adds knows what I want like there is an ad for “Amazon” saying that there is a sale for a bikes or jackets and there is an ad also that is linking to another website and the site that streams anime, manga and sorts are one of those examples. For me I think ads invade the privacy of an individual and make use of that information. The author also says that  “Facebook has ways to find out your personal information like salary and other information regarding your personal information” and the author also states that “not only Facebook uses that kind of method, other site also uses that way of getting information out of us without us knowing about it” well I think almost everybody knows if you read the user agreement before doing something but no one really reads that part and know that already such as I have visited many sites and all of them uses small pop ups like a pop up for user terms which you and I know that we don’t really read the “terms and conditions” we just simply click on it to wrap it up and get what we want. From my own perspective many people tend to click on an ad, never looking, and argues about how sites stole their identity, but for me it is their own fault that they trusted something so obvious. But then again ads are made by people who only tries to make money like setting up an ad because your site’s income is dependent on how many ads posted because that is the only ways to make money for your business thus when add block is there to block ads, it is like taking their jobs away from them. Adds are also important in a way that the author said that “adds are used by fashion designers to market their work” and without it their work will never be known to the public thus their hard work in designing products will not be known and we will be taking out their business one by one, not only the fashion designers are affected but as well as other businesses. The author also mentioned from his research that adds are like small trackers. Well yes I would say that ads are somewhat trackers. Adds are both important and not important, if you are thinking about yourself then adds are not important while if your way of thinking is about the economy then you can say that adds are important.

.

5 things that I have learned:

  1. Ad-Blocking can hurt people’s wallet’s
  2. It is quite expensive to rent space in ad’s
  3. Some Ads are evil some Ads are good
  4. There are ad’s that link you to virus software’s
  5. Not all ads are scams

5 Integrative Questions:

  1. Why was ad-blocker created?
  2. Why do people see ad’s as annoying and not helpful?
  3. Why do people hate ads?
  4. How is scams made?
  5. Are ad’s truly evil or good?
