“How much can you trust what you find on the web?”

By: John D. Thomas

Title:

“Search Trust”

First Impression:

Its really hard to trust anything especially if information came from the web. Even a large companies or known sources are being manipulated.

Quote:

So can anything published online be trusted? That’s like saying can you ever trust anything that the government tells you. The answer: No, you can’t.”

Reflection:

People always rely on the web when they want to know something. But how can we be so sure that information we’re getting is reliable. We all know that information can easily spread online and you might not know it’s already viral. We need to make sure that what we get online is trusted. There are times that when we see links in the web that we find interesting, we tend to select it immediately to see the content of the article. And the next thing we’ll know is that the link contains virus or advertisement coming for unknown sources. So it’s always important to make sure all the data that you gathered is trusted, you can easily know it because most people use that website. Sometimes if he hear something unusual we check the web if its true or not. And most of the time you will share it right away even if its not confirmed yet. There’s a lot of false information circling around the web so be careful. One great example is about advertisement, some companies make sure that what they advertise will get the attention of many customers but when you check the actual product there’s a big difference on what was being shown either in the television or through the web. Of course, whether we accept it or not, web is already part of our lives. And it’s a great help especially to students since it’s much more convenient than going to school library. What you only need is to have mobile data and you can take all information you want with you.

5 Things I’ve learned:

  1. Do not rely what was being told online
  2. Information online can easily be manipulated by others
  3. Make sure to check if information is trusted or not
  4. Always be in doubt
  5.

5 Integrated Questions:

  1. What should we do if we we’re provided by wrong information?
  2. How can we give awareness about getting false information online?
  3. How will you know if people are sharing the information?
  4. Why would you share wrong information if you wont get anything from it?
  5. What can we use information in a right manner?
