“Chefs vs. Cell phones”

By: Kristen Kuchar

Title:

“Food Porn”

First Impression:

I thought this one is going to be about how chefs does not want customers to photograph their food and post it online.

Quote:

“At some point you just have to put down the phone and just enjoy the experience of being out to dinner, with real people, who are there with you at this moment.”

Reflection:

Taking a photo of your food is ok. But when it is taking you too long to do it is something else. I have a lot of friends like this at school. When the food is served, they are going to start taking pictures, insert some filter, caption then post it on their instagram or facebook.  That case is fine but if you are going to take picture of all the different angles of your food, that is already annoying. I admit I do this sometimes when I’m in the mood. I geuss thos who do this just want something very mesmerizing to post on their social sites. In the article, it says there that chefs are getting annoyed and insulted with those people who take selfie with their food first and then eat it. It is not really up to them if people want to take selfie first before eating. I am not saying that it is right but what I’m saying is that they have their freedom to do anything. They are just taking selfies for them to keep something to remember of, not unless if they have rules. But I think if they do that, they will have a lesser customer because you are limiting their movement. But if you are this kind of person who really loves to take a photo of their food, taking him/her too long to do it, well get over it because you are wasting the moment being with your family out for dinner. I noticed that this generation is more keen on updating their profile first before anything else to get more likes etc.  Not like before that when food is served, people say grace and they eat while discussing the happiest moments of their lives.

5 Things I’ve learned

  1. Some chefs does not like their customer taking pictures of their food first
  2. 90 percent of mobile phone is used for searching restaurant in 4square
  3. Some restaurants have their rule of prohibiting cellphones while eating
  4. Some chefs appreciates it when someone shares their food to the world
  5. A picture is worth a thousand words that is why some chefs does not want unprofessional picture of their dish

5 Integrated Questions

  1. How come chefs feels irritated and annoyed everytime they see people take selfies of their food?
  2. What do they get from taking photos of their foods?
  3. Why did the restaurant G.E.B kicked out Steve Dolinsky?
  4. Why does the facebook page Ban cellphones from restaurants created?
  5. What does the chef do when they are annoyed and irritated to people taking pictures of their food?
